If you use “Easy Pay” to pay your Part B premiums every month you were most likely charged twice!  Check the bank account you use for a possible double billing and read this statement provide from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services:

“On background, due to a process error, approximately 411,000 beneficiaries across the country who directly pay CMS their Medicare premiums through Easy Pay (Automated Clearing House payments) had their premiums deducted twice from their bank accounts. CMS is working with the Treasury Department to have the erroneous deductions credited back to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts, as soon as possible.

Additional Information:

  • The Treasury Department is working to reverse the duplicate charge. Approximately 20% of the duplicated transactions have been returned by financial institutions, and if the remaining duplications are not returned by Wednesday, Treasury’s Bureau of Fiscal Service will begin to reverse the remaining transactions to complete the reimbursement.
  • Beneficiaries’ concerned with overdraft or other fees related to the issue should contact their bank, and ask that the fees be waived. Beneficiaries may contact 1-800-MEDICARE, if verification that the issue occurred is needed. Additionally, Treasury has already begun outreach to financial institutions to notify them of this situation.”
